Throughout the 365 days of 2017, local artist Emma Hood ritualized the documentation of each day with a photograph. Relying heavily on her iPhone to not only take the images, but also to composite and upload them to social media, Hood individually numbered and titled each piece as a complete work. For her series, Marking Time, Hood compiles those photographic captures and presents them to an audience through the familiar calendar format. Though time is often metaphorically described as slowing down, speeding up, or stopping entirely, Hood will illustrate time as a constant. Representing the personal growth of the artist over the course of a year, this compilation will reveal both victories and failures, and viewers are encouraged to reflect and piece together their own experiences from the past.
